I am directed by His Excellency the Governor to transmit for your information a letter received from Mr Whyte Magistrates, stating that on Tuesday morning he suggested to the Commanding Officer of the 59th Regiment the advisability of confining his men to the Barracks for a few days, and inclosing Major Dunn's reply to this communication.
I would further respectfully suggest to His Excellency that the Military Authorities be made to enquire as to the manner in which these outrages have been dealt with by the Police, and that the crime of murder most certainly attaches to some of them and may yet be proved.
I have, &c. (Signed) Wm J. Cain Captain Superintendent, H.K.P.
The Honorable Colonel Moody, R.E. Commandant of the Garrison.
